Transitioning from the military to college can be a stressful change, a real culture shock.

Students might miss the network of support found in the military community. They might feel like outsiders or become frustrated with their new environment. By engaging in on-campus activities or in the community, veteran students build and expand their social and professional network, helping them succeed in their academic and personal life. Student Veterans of America (SVA) Club

The Student Veterans of America (SVA) Club is a college-wide organization created to serve active duty, National Guard, reservists, and veteran students at CCBC. SVA peers come together for the betterment of themselves, their fellow student-veterans and their community.

As a member of SVA you can:
  1. Take on leadership roles 
  2. Host “Lunch and Learn” sessions 
  3. Attend special events 
  4. Organize trips 
  5. Provide peer mentoring 
  6. Plan volunteer activities

Note: If you are a military dependent (spouse or dependent child, or survivor of a deceased military service member) and are interested in forming a family member chapter, please let us know!

Veteran Success Committee (VSC)

The Veteran Success Committee (VSC) is a committee made up of CCBC faculty, staff and military-connected students where veteran-related issues and initiatives are discussed and actioned. The VSC mission is to offer support and guidance concerning programs, events and initiatives for CCBC’s military-connected students and their families.

As a VSC student member, you will have the opportunity to voice your interests as a CCBC student; interact with CCBC faculty, staff and other military-connected students; and serve on a VSC subcommittee. Contact Veteran Services if you'd like to attend our next meeting!

CCBC Veteran Alumni Chapter

The CCBC Veteran Alumni Chapter serves a multitude of purposes, such as:

  • Facilitating volunteering and community service
  • Service to the college
  • CCBC student-veteran mentorship
  • Networking with industry 
  • Recreation
  • Education and more
The chapter also serves as a support network and community of peers for our military-connected graduates. 

SALUTE Honor Society

SALUTE is the first national honor society for active-duty military service members, National Guard members, reservists, retirees and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

SALUTE Eligibility
To be eligible for SALUTE, a student must:
  • Be currently enrolled at CCBC 
  • Be serving or have received an honorable discharge 
  • Have completed at least 12 credit hours with CCBC
  • Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 as an undergraduate student

SALUTE offers nationally awarded scholarships to members designed to support student veterans who need supplementation of their GI bill funding or who do not have GI bill funding. Members are encouraged to increase their GPA so that they can qualify for additional scholarship money. Each student selected for recognition through membership in SALUTE will receive a military style challenge coin, honor cord, and a membership certificate suitable for framing.
