Dan served in the army from 1968-1970, and started his education as an evening student in 1971 at Dundalk Community College on the GI Bill.
“The college gave me the basics to do everything I was going to do,” says Toland, owner of Toland & Company Inc. Financial Services. Toland opened his accounting firm in 1975. A longtime Dundalk resident, he started out to become “the neighborhood guy,” building his business by serving the community.
And while the mainstays of his business are still loyal local clients, his expertise in the areas of business accounting, income tax planning and preparation as well as financial planning services are now in demand as far away as Hawaii and Korea.
After completing his studies at Dundalk Community College, Toland attended Towson State College and graduated on December 28, 1975. Also, he served as treasurer of The Greater Baltimore Area Chamber of Commerce. Currently, Toland is an accredited Business Accountant, a Certified Senior Advisor and a Registered Financial Consultant. His firm, Toland & Company, celebrated its 41st anniversary this year in conjunction with the celebration of his wedding anniversary. He and his wife, Florence who is a DCC graduate of the florist program, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year.
From 1981 to 2001, Toland helped boost the confidence levels of many of his own students while teaching Accounting. And, Dan’s two sons, Daniel C. Toland III and Christopher M. Toland, are also past graduates of CCBC.
“Everyone has dreams, just as I had when I returned home from military service and started at DCC,” he says. “We try to give them a step-by-step success plan – just as I was taught – and referrals to other professionals who can help them get where they want to go.”
