Highlights of July 2020
Adapting to meet the evolving needs of the college community, CCBC continues to provide instructional, training and enrichment opportunities on campus and in virtual environments.Partnership boosts skilled trades education and technician training
Johnson Controls employees will support CCBC through volunteering and mentorships, providing students with real-world experience, internship opportunities, and professional networking connections.
The grant will help expand associate degree and certificate programs in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), fire and security and digital building automation systems, all areas where the U.S. Bureau of Labor is predicting an increased need for skilled trades expertise in the coming years.
CCBC will also focus on strategies designed to create a sustainable pipeline of graduates from underrepresented communities who find success in HVAC and Building Automation Systems careers.
Health care apprenticeships advance
- More than 400 participants were enrolled pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs and placed with employers.
- Information sessions and applications were converted to virtual formats, including onboarding for online delivery and ongoing retention monitoring.
- Continuing Education increased the number of employer-partners through referrals of satisfied employers, and plans to expand programming beyond Maryland with a partnership with CVS.
- A U.S. Department of Labor monitoring visit noted favorable student and employer feedback. These two sectors spoke highly of both the CCBC programs and their interactions with the college.
Job Network matches employers with workers
Job Network hosted multiple virtual job fairs, featuring employers such as Dream Management, Rasani Consulting, Allied Universal Security, Goodwill, Kennedy Services, Mary Kraft, and Erickson Living. Participating students had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with hiring managers, including those from Baltimore County Public Schools and the U.S. Postal Service.
